The D 28 has been around since the mid-1930's or so. Its gone through many changes over the years, but it remains the standard for acoustic guitars. This is also not a flashy guitar. It’s a basic shape with basic design. Since this guitar has been around for so long, the vintage models can come with a pretty hefty price tag. A guitar that sold for $100 in the 50's is worth several thousand dollars today. Even today's models are not cheap. However, as the old saying goes - you get what you pay for.
The Martin guitar D 28 model is a heavy, solidly built guitar. It has a classic shape that hasn’t changed much since it was first introduced. The woods used have also changed over the years, but all have been extremely high quality. While much of the construction is machine guided, these guitars are basically still hand made. The resulting sound has more bass than the D 16 or D 18. However, if you want the classic "big sound" there is no substitute for the D 28.
This isn’t some beater guitar you give your kid to learn on or take to the beach for a cook-out. This is a serious collector’s item and will give you years of enjoyment. A Martin is an investment. Its value and sound will only improve over time. If you're a serious player, a Martin guitar D 28 model is a very worthwhile consideration.
